Introduction
Hello, and welcome to my second family history journal, the first being Boltancestry-uk charting the history of my paternal line. Currently my paternal lineage dates back to a David Bolt born in 1660 on the island of Bressay, Shetland, Scotland. However this is almost the end of the line for me as Birth, Marriage & Death records for the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries are very rare, and many of the documents did not survive beyond the 'Highland Clearances' that took place in the mid-to-late 19th century. But, with the assistance of DNA analysis I have found that I have a very strong ancestral link with Scandinavian countries such as Norway and Sweden dating back to the early Viking settlements. On my maternal side, my mothers side of the family this adventure has only just begun. so lets get started. My maternal side of the family, have strong roots with County Durham and Yorkshire. Occupations on this side of the family tend to be hard manual labour work, such a farming, mining and ship building. We also have a number of creative trades such a potters, painter, dressmakers and Oh, and a couple of photographers.
The main family names I am researching on this side of the family are as follows:

When I began writing this journal (April 2020) the UK and large parts of the world were in 'Lockdown' the result of a global Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Another chapter in our family history took place in the 1920s & 30s when, during the great depression the British Government offered a low cost passage to Canada, three sister take up the challenge to emigrate and build a new future, they were:
Isabella Walker/Huddleston family - Mary Hannah Walker/McQuarrie family - Josephine Walker/Allardyce family. |
